Podcaster Amanda Hirsch apologized for posting a sponsored reel with the betting platform Polymarket related to the Lindsay Clancy trial. The post, made after a mistrial was declared, connected the trial’s outcome to predictions made on Polymarket, sparking significant criticism.
Hirsch, creator of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” and “Get Real” podcasts, stated the partnership was “completely insensitive, wrong, and out of character.” She explained she had become consumed by the trial and “lost perspective,” failing to recognize the inappropriateness of linking a tragic event to a brand promotion. “I made a terrible judgment call and I feel so fucking awful about that,” she wrote in a post on her Instagram grid, where comments were disabled.
Prior to the sponsored content on September 4, Hirsch had shared her conflicted feelings about the case, expressing compassion for Lindsay Clancy while also criticizing the focus on Patrick Clancy and the public’s reaction to the tragedy. She voiced concern that the public’s compassion for Clancy was overshadowing the deaths of her three children, stating, “Three babies were killed. They had their entire lives ahead of them…They were strangled to death methodically and left to die in the basement.” She also noted she didn’t know what should happen to Lindsay Clancy, but was unsettled by the “fan base” and GoFundMe support.
Hirsch deleted the initial Polymarket post after the backlash, but screenshots circulated online. Her representative did not respond to a request for comment from Variety before she issued her apology.
