“Star Trek” fans will have numerous opportunities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the sci-fi franchise, officially marked on September 8, 1966, the date of its television premiere. Events include screenings of original series episodes and films, themed episodes of popular television shows, and a world record attempt.
A free outdoor screening of “Star Trek: The Original Series” episode “The Man Trap” and a new episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” titled “Orders of Magnitude,” will take place at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles on September 8. The event will also feature talent appearances, food trucks, and giveaways.
From September 4-8, 4K restorations of classic “Star Trek” films will be paired with original series episodes and shown in over 750 theaters across the U.S. Television programming will also commemorate the anniversary. “Entertainment Tonight” will air a special “ET Vault Unlocked” episode on September 7, featuring interviews with series creator Gene Roddenberry and cast members, as well as archival footage.
“The Price Is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” will both air “Star Trek”-themed episodes on September 8. Nick at Nite will air a marathon of “The Big Bang Theory” episodes focusing on “Star Trek” on the same day. Fans can participate in a Guinness World Record attempt for the most people performing the Vulcan Salute simultaneously on September 8 at the Science Museum in London.
Additional events include a restoration of Gene Roddenberry’s star on the Hollywood Boulevard, a “Star Trek” themed activation at Samsung’s King’s Cross store in London on September 8, and a “Star Trek” takeover of King’s Cross St Pancras and South Kensington stations on the London Underground from September 7-8.
