A new documentary from Yemeni-Scottish filmmaker Sara Ishaq is set for its world premiere in the Critics' Week section at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, titled 'The Station,' focuses on a character named Layal, who runs a women-only establishment.
In an interview with Variety, Ishaq offered a glimpse into the subject matter, describing the concealed vibrancy of Yemeni women's lives. 'Behind closed doors, the colors emerge, the frankincense, the laughter and the singing,' the director said.
Ishaq previously received an Academy Award nomination for her documentary short 'Karama Has No Walls.' Sales agent Paradise City Sales provided Variety with an exclusive clip from the film ahead of its debut.
