Professional wrestler 'Superstar' Bill Dundee passed away Sunday at age 82 after battling dementia in recent years.
Born William Cruickshanks in Scotland and raised in Australia, Dundee began his wrestling career in the early 1960s, arriving in the United States in the 1970s. He initially teamed with George Barnes, achieving success in Memphis and winning the NWA Mid-America Southern Tag Team Titles in 1975.
Dundee was known for his decades-long rivalry with Jerry Lawler, alternating between teaming with and feuding against him, often competing for the Southern Heavyweight Championship. He also wrestled for Championship Wrestling from Florida, Mid-Atlantic, Central States, the AWA, and World Class. In 1993, he appeared in WCW as Sir William, managing Lord Steven Regal.
Dundee remained semi-active in wrestling until 2019, with his final match occurring in December of that year at a Bobby Eaton appreciation event. He continued to make appearances despite his health issues, including a recent honor on an episode of Memphis Wrestling that aired the day before his death. Jamie Cruickshanks, also known as J.C. Ice, announced his father’s passing on Facebook, stating, “At 330 this morning the SUPERSTSR BILL DUNDEE has passed away ...I love you Dad illl catch you on the OTHERSIDE........ REST IN PIECE SUPERSTAR ... Love Bill's Boy”.
