NASA and the National Football League have announced a new collaboration to showcase space and aeronautics innovation to fans across the United States. The partnership, dubbed the Inspiration Tour, will include flyovers, astronaut appearances, and fan engagement at NFL games.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman stated, “This is the first season NASA is taking part in flyovers at NFL games, bringing the excitement of America’s space program directly to fans across the country.” He explained the agency is “returning to the Moon, building a Moon Base, advancing fission-powered spacecraft, and pushing the boundaries in aeronautics, science, and discovery,” and that partnering with the NFL will “inspire the next generation to look up and imagine the possibilities.”
NASA participation is scheduled for games in several cities, beginning September 13th with the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Atlanta Falcons game in Pittsburgh. Other scheduled appearances include games on September 20th in Baltimore (Baltimore Ravens vs. New Orleans Saints), October 4th in Philadelphia (Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams), and October 11th in East Rutherford, New Jersey (New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns). Flyovers will feature NASA’s fleet of aircraft, used for testing, research, and astronaut training, while also demonstrating new technologies for potential commercial air travel.
The Inspiration Tour will also connect NASA with academic, industry, and public sector stakeholders. The tour will culminate in MAX POWER, a public exposition of American air and space innovation, to be held November 7th and 8th near the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The event will showcase next-generation aircraft, spacecraft, and autonomous vehicles, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.
