Lyle/Pacelli defeated LeRoy-Ostrander in straight sets on September 3rd, with freshman Akeara Oman playing a key role in the 25-22, 25-13, 25-16 victory.
Oman, a freshman hitter for Lyle/Pacelli (LP), contributed eight kills and three aces, helping to lift her team after falling behind 7-2 in the first set. She tied the set at 12 with three consecutive aces. Autumn Drennan, LP’s junior setter, recorded 23 set assists and praised Oman’s growth, stating, “Akeara has grown so much and even last year she was amazing. She's always ready to hit from all angles.” Drennan also noted the team needed the win and was still working to find its rhythm.
LP took a 24-22 lead in the first set on a kill by Jacey Bednar, who finished with eight kills and five digs. The team then carried that momentum into the second and third sets, jumping out to early leads. LP co-head coach Larry Neilsen highlighted the importance of serving and serve receive, saying, “When we serve well and serve receive well, we're a pretty good team.” He added that their serving had improved after struggling in that area the previous week.
LeRoy-Ostrander (LO) was led by Miranda Nagel with six kills and Benita Almaraz-Nolt with five kills, six digs, and two aces. LO head coach Lindsay Milks expressed pride in her team’s performance, given the challenges they’ve faced with injuries and transfers. She stated, “Everything was stacked against us, and I'm happy with how these girls have really worked hard and done what I've asked of them.”
Additional LP stats included Carleigh Rymer with 10 digs and four ace serves, Camiryn Meyer with three aces, Marlie Klankowski with three kills, Gracie Bauer with three kills, and Maddi Klankowski with two kills. For LO, Madi Stern had four kills, three digs, and one block, while Tierney Schulte registered seven digs, and Vanessa Lewis had 16 set assists and three digs.
