Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels faced a key season beginning against the Eagles in Week 1. Coach Dan Quinn and his staff worked with Daniels to improve his awareness of when to avoid unnecessary hits during scrambles. The coaching staff created a compilation of every scramble play from the 2025 season, tasking Daniels with identifying opportunities to avoid contact.
According to Dan Quinn, Daniels “didn’t have that part of his game in order,” but has since improved. The goal is to keep Daniels healthy, as he missed more than half of the Commanders’ games in the previous season after a promising rookie year. Daniels acknowledged the criticism he has received, stating, “I think everybody has an opinion, no matter whether it's good or bad…the only thing that matters to me is the people inside that building, you know, my family. And helping the Washington Commanders win football games to be the best version of myself.”
Daniels attributes his ability to remain grounded to his faith, saying, “I would just say my faith…My faith in Jesus Christ, man. I mean, without him, I wouldn't be here at this point. So, you know, never get too high, never get too low, try to stay even-keeled.” While Daniels has worked on avoiding hits, the Commanders’ offensive line, considered the NFL’s worst, may struggle to provide him with enough time to scramble effectively.
