Former University of Connecticut (UConn) women’s basketball guard Caroline Ducharme has begun her professional career with Explosivas de Moca in Puerto Rico. Ducharme signed with the team on September 8th after overcoming multiple concussions that impacted her college career.
Ducharme, a Milton, Massachusetts native and the No. 5-ranked recruit in the Class of 2021, was a key contributor to UConn’s 2025 national championship team. She secured a clutch win for the Huskies with a last-second driving layup against DePaul on January 26, 2022, earning All-Big East Second Team and All-Big East Freshman Team honors. However, she faced significant health challenges due to concussions, missing substantial playing time over the next three years. She endured concussions during her freshman and sophomore years, and further recovery delays occurred during UConn’s 2023 European exhibition games and a flight to the Cayman Islands.
Ducharme sat out most of her junior year (2023-24) to recover, returning to play nine games during UConn’s championship run in 2025. In her fifth and final season at UConn, she appeared in 25 games, averaging 1.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 7.2 minutes. Despite going undrafted in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Ducharme signed a training camp contract with the Golden State Valkyries, playing in one preseason game before being waived.
Jaime Babilonia, the representative of the Explosivas, stated, “Bringing a player with the winning mentality and caliber of Caroline Ducharme is a luxury for our organization. She comes from the cradle of women's basketball with UConn. She knows what the pressure of playing to win championships requires and is ready to demonstrate her talent in her professional debut with the Explosivas.” Ducharme has been training to maintain her fitness since being cut from the Valkyries.
