The Big Ten conference experienced a challenging Week 2 of the 2026 college football season, with both No. 1 Ohio State and No. 5 Indiana suffering losses. Several other Big Ten teams also fell to Power Four opponents.
No. 4 Texas defeated No. 1 Ohio State 24-23. Ohio State built a 20-3 halftime lead, but the Longhorns, led by quarterback Arch Manning, mounted a comeback, completing the program’s biggest win in nearly 20 years. Jeremiah Smith led the Buckeyes with 164 receiving yards and a touchdown, but a missed late field goal allowed Texas to secure the victory. Head coach Ryan Day is expected to face criticism for the team’s second-half performance. Texas will take over the No. 1 ranking in the polls.
No. 5 Indiana dominated Howard with a 55-0 victory. Quarterback Josh Hoover completed 6 of 11 passes for 145 yards and 4 touchdowns, with Charlie Becker catching three of those touchdowns on his only three receptions. Hoover and Becker were later rested in the second half.
Oklahoma State upset No. 6 Oregon 39-31. The Cowboys, who had lost 12 straight games and 21 straight against FBS opponents, took an early lead and held a 24-17 advantage at halftime. Oregon’s Dante Moore passed for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns but had a negative rushing total. The Oregon defense allowed 554 yards to Oklahoma State, including 237 rushing yards. A late fumble recovery by Oklahoma State sealed the win.
Michigan defeated No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10.
