The 2026 Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 4, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event celebrates the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Masterworks: Costume Art,” which features garments that blur the line between fashion and art. The dress code for the evening is “Tailored for You,” inspired by the exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
This year’s co-chairs are Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos, and Zoë Kravitz. Sánchez and Bezos are engaged; Kravitz is an actress and director.
The red carpet coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. ET and will be live-streamed on Vogue’s digital platforms and the E! network. The official guest list has not been released, but expected attendees include Zendaya, Rihanna, Bad Bunny, Ayo Edebiri, Timothée Chalamet, Sydney Sweeney, Sabrina Carpenter, and others.
The exhibition “Masterworks: Costume Art” will include approximately 150 pieces spanning from the 18th century to the present, featuring works by designers such as Charles Frederick Worth, Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen. The gala serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute; last year’s event raised over $26 million.
Ticket prices for the gala are $75,000 per individual seat, with tables starting at $350,000. The Met Gala was founded in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert as a midnight supper with tickets priced at $50. It moved to the first Monday in May in 2005, and Anna Wintour became chair in 1995, transforming it into a major fashion and cultural event.
