Watermelon Pictures has acquired the North American rights to “Ashes,” a migration drama directed and co-written by Diego Luna. The acquisition follows the film’s world premiere at Cannes and is ahead of its screening at the Toronto film festival next month.
The film is adapted from the critically acclaimed feminist novel “Ceniza en la boca.” Watermelon Pictures made the deal to distribute the film in North America.
Diego Luna, who is a Mexican actor, director, and producer, co-wrote and directed “Ashes. The film premiered internationally at the Cannes Film Festival and will be shown at the Toronto festival in the coming month.
