The University of New Mexico (UNM) is preparing for a football season with high expectations and increased fan turnout, leading to adjustments in game day parking and tailgating procedures. Athletic Director Ryan Berryman acknowledges the challenges that come with the program's success.
Ryan Berryman, the first-year Athletic Director at UNM, expressed gratitude for the current state of Lobo sports, particularly in football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. He stated, “I couldn't ask for anything more… I walked into an amazing situation with great coaches and high expectations. I wouldn't want to have it any other way.” He recognizes that increased fan interest brings logistical issues, specifically regarding parking and stadium overcrowding.
In 2025, UNM experienced a 57.8% increase in average home football attendance compared to 2024. Berryman stated the university wasn’t fully prepared for the surge in fans. To address this, new procedures are being implemented to maximize parking space and improve the tailgating experience. “A shortage of parking spaces is a great problem to have as it means the Lobos are playing meaningful football and competing for a conference championship,” Berryman said.
Specific parking timelines for game day are as follows: Stadium East lots open at 6 a.m., STP and Pit lots at 9 a.m., the Isotopes game starts at 1:30 p.m., T-Lot and CNM lots open at 2 p.m., Louie Lane opens at 5 p.m., the Lobo walk begins at 5:45 p.m., University Stadium gates open at 6:30 p.m., Louie Lane closes at 7:30 p.m., the team runs out at 8:03 p.m., and kickoff is at 8:10 p.m. Tailgating ends at kickoff, and lots close after the game.
Stadium East parking remains first-come, first-served at $15 per space, with a limited number of reserved spots available through the Lobo Club for $100 per game or $500 for the season. Reserved spots provide the equivalent of six parking spaces. RVs or trailers utilizing reserved spots must arrive the day before the game. Parking in Stadium East will now be guided by lot attendants, a change from previous years’ self-directed parking.
