Canonical has released the fourth snapshot of Ubuntu 26.10, dubbed “Stonking Stingray,” for testing purposes. The release precedes the Ubuntu 26.10 beta milestone scheduled for next week.
Utkarsh Gupta of Canonical announced the availability of the snapshot ISOs. These monthly snapshots are part of Canonical’s release and build automation processes. The snapshot is expected to be similar to the upcoming beta release. Ubuntu 26.10 features the Linux 7.2 kernel, the latest GNOME 51 desktop components, and Mesa 26.2 graphics drivers, representing significant updates over Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
A key change in Ubuntu 26.10 is the completed transition to Rust Coreutils. Early testing indicates good performance. Details on downloading the Snapshot 4 ISOs are available via the mailing list announcement.
The release schedule for Ubuntu 26.10 includes a beta release on September 24, a kernel freeze on October 1, a final freeze on October 8, and a stable release on October 15.
