Former President Donald Trump shared a misleading three-minute video on his Truth Social platform, edited to portray King Charles and other world leaders as disrespectful. The video features a clip of King Charles appearing to walk away from an Asda employee who fainted during a 2020 supermarket visit, omitting footage of the King reaching out to the man and remaining nearby as he received medical attention. The Daily Mail and BBC News both reported that the original footage showed Charles attempting to help the employee and remaining close while aid was administered.
The edited clip was presented alongside footage of French President Emmanuel Macron walking past a collapsing guard, former President Joe Biden appearing to check his watch during a repatriation ceremony, and former President Barack Obama giving a salute while holding a coffee cup. Trump contrasted these clips with footage of himself honoring soldiers, greeting law enforcement, and interacting positively with veterans. Captions in the video read “the side of Trump the media doesn’t show you” and “the people’s president,” set to Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years.”
Trump has previously described King Charles as “the greatest king in my book” following the King and Queen’s state visit to the US in April. Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the video. The White House has not responded to a request for comment. The video was posted on US Labor Day. The question of whether this video represents a shift in Trump’s messaging or is simply a continuation of his established pattern of highlighting perceived slights remains open.
