A total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026, plunging parts of Europe into darkness. Spain is expected to offer prime viewing locations for the event.
The European Space Agency (ESA) plans to livestream the eclipse from the Javalambre Observatory. The livestream will combine feeds from telescopes, drone footage, and commentary from experts. At the observatory, totality – the complete obscuring of the sun by the moon – is predicted to last 1 minute and 21 seconds.
The event will allow observers to view the Sun’s normally hidden outer atmosphere. According to a statement released by ESA, at 20:31 CEST on August 12, 2026, the Javalambre Observatory will experience this complete solar eclipse.
