The SDL3 library, used for cross-platform game and application development, has been ported to Huawei’s HarmonyOS and OpenHarmony operating systems. The port was completed by Ryan “Icculus” Gordon, sponsored by Outfit7, and is already being utilized in commercial games.
Ryan “Icculus” Gordon undertook the work of bringing SDL3 support to HarmonyOS and its open-source counterpart, OpenHarmony. HarmonyOS is a distributed operating system developed by Huawei for a range of devices including smartphones, tablets, PCs, and smart devices, and is built on a micro-kernel design. OpenHarmony is described as an offshoot of HarmonyOS.
According to Icculus, the SDL3 port to HarmonyOS/OpenHarmony has already seen implementation in some commercial games. The port has been tested on physical hardware and has been merged into the upstream SDL Git repository. Details of the integration are available in the pull request.
