Sanfic Industria and the Guadalajara Film Fest are partnering to create a new incubator program for queer cinema in Latin America, spurred by recent successes of Latin American LGBTQ+ films on the international stage.
The initiative comes following a year of recognition for Latin American queer films. Last year, David Pablos’ “On the Road” (“En el camino”) won both the Queer Lion and Horizons awards at the Venice Film Festival. The Berlinale’s Teddy Award has also previously recognized Latino LGBTQ+ films, notably Peru’s “Retablo”.
The joint program aims to foster and support the development of queer films originating from Latin America.
