Poppe stated that “Beloved” has been on his desk for “many, many years,” with the script penned almost 20 years prior to the festival opening. The timing of the film’s premiere feels significant in light of Fosse receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2023.
According to Poppe, the film resonates with a desire for authenticity.
