Matteo’s girlfriend, Thea (Melina Åkerman), is pregnant and unwilling to relocate from Oslo to Rome, especially after Matteo’s mother, Agnese (Angela Finocchiaro), expresses doubts about her suitability as a mother. After their son, Gregorio, is born, Thea leaves Rome, abandoning the baby. Simultaneously, Greta’s boyfriend, Carlo (Edoardo Purgatori), proposes publicly in Mumbai, but she declines and seeks help from her father (Nanni Moretti himself) to escape the situation.
Seven years later, Matteo and Greta reconnect during a tennis match. Greta, in a white dress and preparing for her wedding to Federico (Antonio De Matteo), immediately captures Matteo’s attention. However, Matteo is also preoccupied with his dying father, Olivier (Hippolyte Girardot). The film features flashbacks and jumps in time – seven years, then seven again, and finally three – to illustrate the unfolding connection between Matteo and Greta.
