DAZN referee expert Luca Marelli reviewed several contentious officiating decisions from Inter's 3-2 Serie A victory against Napoli on Saturday. The decisions centered around potential handball and a contested goal, but Inter ultimately secured the win with a late brace from captain Lautaro Martínez.
During the match at the San Siro, Napoli's Stanislav Lobotka appeared to handle the ball during a challenge with Nicolò Barella inside the penalty area. Referee Simone Sozza did not award a penalty, and VAR did not intervene. Marelli, reviewing the footage, stated: “There are many doubts. It is impossible to tell for sure whether there was contact, even though his arm was extended. Looking at all the available footage, you simply cannot determine if he touches it with his hand or not.” Play continued, leading to Matteo Politano’s opening goal for Napoli.
Later in the second half, Inter’s Marcus Thuram scored to equalize while Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani was on the ground near the goal. Sozza allowed the goal to stand, determining Rrahmani had not been fouled.
Despite the controversy, Inter completed a comeback victory thanks to a late double from Lautaro Martínez, securing a 3-2 win in stoppage time.
