Detroit Lions left guard Christian Mahogany suffered an injury during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Veteran Ben Bartch replaced Mahogany after the injury occurred on a 21-yard run by Jahmyr Gibbs.
Mahogany was seen limping as he left the field, and the team has not yet announced the nature or severity of the injury. Dan Campbell, the Lions’ coach, stated Friday there was a “good chance” Mahogany would start. Bartch had been competing with Mahogany for the starting left guard position.
Campbell had previously indicated Detroit could potentially use both guards against New Orleans, given the close competition between them. Bartch is now starting due to Mahogany’s injury. The Lions will hope Mahogany’s absence is temporary, but his status will be monitored as the game continues.
