Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has stated the club should aggressively target Champions League glory this season, believing they possess the necessary squad to compete for the title. He views a lack of ambition in this regard as “cowardly.”
Yamal, in a preview of Movistar+'s Universo Valdano, described Barcelona’s focus on the Champions League as a positive development. “It's good to be obsessed with the Champions League; it would be very cowardly of us not to believe that we're going to go for it this year,” he said. He emphasized that while confidence is welcome, certainty is not, stating, “I think the problem would be if someone went out and said we're going to win it no matter what, because you can never know that for sure.”
Yamal highlighted Barcelona’s historical success and current squad strength as justification for their Champions League ambitions. “We've got the squad to achieve it,” he asserted, adding, “At the end of the day, we're Barça, and Barça have had periods where they were the best team in history and have won the Champions League.”
Despite prioritizing the Champions League, Yamal also indicated Barcelona is equally focused on La Liga, stating, “In fact, we're going for La Liga; we can win both La Liga and the Champions League.” He also stressed the importance of team resilience during challenging moments in matches, saying, “We have to act as a team and stick together through those twenty bad minutes.”
