North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed weapons tests, including a nuclear-capable cruise missile and electronic warfare systems, aboard the newly commissioned 5,000-ton destroyer Kang Kon. After observing the tests from shore, Kim ordered officials to complete the vessel’s trials and place it into active duty within two months.
The state media reported Sunday that Kim Jong Un supervised the weapons tests last week. The tests included launches of cruise missiles and demonstrations of “electronic warfare means,” according to the Japan Times.
According to the Independent, the Kang Kon is a 5,000-ton destroyer. North Korea commissioned its first vessel of this size in late June, as reported by The Hindu.
The New York Post reported that Kim Jong Un ordered officials to finalize trials for the destroyer and activate it within two months following his observation of the tests.
