Jeff Zucker, former CEO of NBCUniversal and CNN Worldwide, attended the Venice Film Festival Saturday for the premiere of A24’s ‘Primetime,’ in which he plays himself. The film centers on Chris Hansen and the ‘To Catch a Predator’ show.
Zucker was seen interacting with attendees, including indie pop star Phoebe Bridgers, and receiving congratulations from Venice Film Festival leadership, including artistic director Alberto Barbera, for his role in the film. He appears as himself offering the show a primetime slot, saying, “I don’t really like your show, but America loves it.” He also has a voiceover role later in the film.
Zucker explained his decision to act in the film, stating, “Because I hadn’t done anything like this and somebody asked so I said yes.” He noted that while he’d made cameo appearances on television shows like ‘My Name is Earl’ and ‘Kirstie Alley’s Fat Actress,’ a feature film was a new experience, calling it “a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Currently the CEO of RedBird IMI and an operating partner at RedBird Capital Partners, Zucker’s company, Media Res, was involved in the production of Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink,’ which opened this year’s festival.
