Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson stated a conversation with head coach Ben Johnson instilled a belief in the team’s potential to compete for a Super Bowl, revitalizing his competitive spirit. The Bears, after claiming their first NFC North title in seven seasons and winning a playoff game for the first time since 2011, are aiming for continued success, but will rely on a healthy Jaylon Johnson.
Johnson, a 2023 Second-Team All-Pro, revealed the transformative discussion. “We had a talk, and I would say in my years being here, I've never had a talk {with} a coach saying we got a chance to win a Super Bowl,” Johnson said, per FOX Bears reporter Devan Kaney. “So I think when he said that, it put some things in perspective for me. I have, we have the opportunity to do something special, so I think for me, it just sparked a different level of my competitive nature that I haven't had since I've been here.”
While Johnson recently signed a $76 million contract extension, he noted the conversation with Johnson underscored a previous sense of hopelessness within the Bears organization. The cornerback played only seven regular season games in 2025 due to a groin injury. The team is now focused on stability and building a winning culture, with Johnson aiming to contribute to a Lombardi Trophy run. The Bears will open their season against the Carolina Panthers.
