The strikes occurred less than a day after White House envoy Jared Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks focused on disarmament in Gaza. Barrack’s assessment stands in contrast to the previously “uneasy peace” that had settled between Israel and the Trump administration regarding Syria post-Assad.
Both Damascus and Ankara have also condemned the Israeli strikes. The situation highlights a potential rift between the US and Israel regarding policy in Syria, despite recent high-level meetings between US and Israeli officials.
