Framework announced a price adjustment for its upcoming Laptop 13 Pro, resulting in reduced RAM configurations for both new orders and pre-orders. The company cites unforeseen bill of materials (BOM) cost increases as the reason for the change.
Framework stated this was a “major and unfortunate” update regarding the Laptop 13 Pro. According to the announcement, the base model will now ship with 8GB of RAM instead of the originally advertised 16GB.
The company explained that they had hoped to absorb rising component costs but were ultimately unable to do so without impacting specifications. “We’ve been working hard to manage increasing Bill of Materials (BOM) costs, and we’ve absorbed a lot,” Framework said in its announcement. “Unfortunately, recent increases have made it impossible to deliver the originally planned configurations at the announced prices.”
The change affects both new orders and those who have already pre-ordered the Laptop 13 Pro. Customers will receive a refund for the difference in price between the original configuration and the revised one. Framework is offering existing customers the option to upgrade back to 16GB of RAM, but at an additional cost.
