Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) will host Doane University on Saturday at Joe Quintal Field, marking the Tigers' home and Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) opener. DWU is looking to rebound from a 35-27 loss to Dakota State, while Doane enters the game with a 1-0 record after receiving a forfeit win from Texas College due to health reasons.
The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Central Time. DWU’s record is 0-1 overall and 0-0 in the GPAC, while Doane is also 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play. DWU head coach Alex Kretzschmar is in his third season with a record of 8-15, and Doane’s Jonathan Johnson is also in his third season, holding a 6-16 record.
Doane leads the all-time series 25-16-1, but DWU won the last meeting 33-7 on October 4, 2025, in Crete, Nebraska. The Tigers have won the last three meetings and five of the last six in the series. Doane is seeking its first win at Joe Quintal Field since a 38-20 victory on October 5, 2019.
DWU showcased its rushing attack in its season opener, gaining 147 yards on the ground, the most in over a year. Landon Iverson led the Tigers with 75 rushing yards. The team was also perfect on red-zone trips (3-for-3) for the first time since 2024, when they went 4-for-4 against Doane in a 47-21 win. Defensively, Reed Rus recorded three sacks in his DWU debut, contributing to a total of four sacks for the team, a feat achieved only once since 2022.
Doane’s forfeit win over Texas College was the program’s first since 1978, when William Jewell (Mo.) forfeited a game. Doane’s quarterback, Noah Booras, returns after throwing for 205 yards in 2025, but the team has lost its top three rushers.
