Following a strong performance in the SEC road win against Kentucky, Daniel Hill appears to be establishing himself as the primary running back for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and head coach Kalen DeBoer have both praised Hill's work ethic and performance.
Hill rushed for 104 yards and a score on 18 carries during the game against Kentucky. DeBoer stated the team “rode the hot hand” in the run game, which was Hill. However, DeBoer also emphasized the continued development of freshmen running backs EJ Crowell and Trae'shawn Brown, who combined for 39 yards and two scores on eight carries.
The running back room may become more crowded soon with AK Dear “making good progress” in his recovery from a lower-body injury. DeBoer acknowledged that Dear’s return will increase competition for playing time, stating, “These guys are highly talented guys, extremely explosive… AK (Dear) added to the mix, it will get a little harder in that room to get on the football field.”
Grubb highlighted Hill’s strengths, noting his footwork, decisiveness, and ability to “run a guy over.” DeBoer also praised Hill’s dedication, stating, “He’s earned every carry he’s gotten… He’s worked hard for it. I’m excited, I’m happy for his success, because he’s worked and stayed the course.” DeBoer added that Hill has shown significant improvement and has been a leader, even mentoring fellow freshman EJ Crowell upon his arrival.
