CHUWI recently released the UniBook laptop, powered by the Intel Core 3 304 "Wildcat Lake" processor and priced at $449. The laptop is notable for being a new sub-$500 laptop in a market with high component pricing. The Core 3 304 features five cores – one P core and four LPE cores – with a base frequency of 1.4~1.5GHz and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.3GHz. It has a 15 Watt base power rating and a 15 Watt maximum turbo power, manufactured on Intel 18A.
The Intel graphics component includes one Xe core running at 2.3GHz, capable of driving up to three displays. The CHUWI UniBook includes 8GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 256GB NVMe SSD. The system features a 14-inch 1920x1200 sRGB IPS display. Connectivity options include two USB-C ports (with power delivery), three USB-A ports, HDMI, analog audio, a card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, and a Kensington lock slot.
The laptop has a 53.38 Wh Lithium-Polymer battery, a full-size backlit keyboard, and a large touchpad. While the speakers and webcam are basic, the unit offers good connectivity for its price point. Microsoft Windows 11 was pre-loaded on the review unit. Initial testing by Phoronix indicates good Linux compatibility and power efficiency, though the 8GB of single-channel RAM may be a limitation for future use.
