The Boston Celtics have agreed to a deal with guard Devin Carter, who will compete for a roster or two-way spot in training camp. Carter was recently waived by the Atlanta Hawks.
The 24-year-old Carter played college basketball at South Carolina and Providence, earning Big East Player of the Year honors in 2024 and First-team All-Big East recognition. He was selected 13th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings.
Through two NBA seasons, Carter averages 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from 3-point range. Analysts note his defensive capabilities and potential to become a valuable 3-and-D player, drawing comparisons to Derrick White if he improves his outside shooting. A concern is his durability, having played only 36 games as a rookie and 38 as a sophomore.
Carter’s father, Anthony, played 13 seasons in the NBA with six different teams.
