Zvonimir Boban, former AC Milan star and current Dinimo Zagreb president, has expressed concerns about the lack of progress at his former club, despite significant summer spending. He also shared his Champions League predictions and praised Como’s project.
Boban stated, “For years, Milan haven't done Milan-like things, in any sense.” He sees only “courage and desire to play attacking football” as a positive development for the Rossoneri, noting that last year’s loss to Cagliari stemmed from a previously defensive style of play. Milan spent approximately €165 million on new signings, including Gonçalo Ramos (€75m, including add-ons) and Diego Moreira (€65m, including add-ons).
While acknowledging Ramos’s goal-scoring ability, Boban believes the price paid was “disproportionate,” and highlighted the story of Cisse, a young player who emerged through talent alone. He also criticized the broader state of Italian football, stating, “In terms of ideas, we are far from Europe and its concept of speed. Italian football is not very attacking, increasingly physical and less proactive.” He contrasted the post-Sacchi era’s emphasis on four-man defenses with the current trend of “modernised catenaccio” using three-man defenses.
Boban praised Serie A’s Como, stating, “I’m a fan of the project and how Fàbregas is coaching the team. And then there's Baturina, a lad from Dinamo Zagreb, just like me.” Regarding the Champions League, he identified Barcelona, PSG, and Bayern Munich as the top contenders, naming Yamal as his choice for the Ballon d'Or, praising his “absurd talent” and “naturalness.” He also stated, “Arsenal are my fourth favourite to win the Champions League.”
