Thomas made an immediate impact, scoring a 97-yard touchdown on the first offensive play with a stutter-and-go route, showcasing what might be the fastest speed the Bears have seen in some time. He finished with 140 receiving yards on five catches and added a 39-yard punt return. Bagent, returning after missing a week of practice, completed 16 of 17 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Head coach Ben Johnson emphasized a focus on present-day preparation, stating, “All I care about is: Does it help us win or not?” He dismissed the relevance of the team’s previous 11-6 season and NFC North title, designing the offseason and summer program to prioritize current performance. The Bears have experienced relatively few injuries during training camp and the preseason, losing only safety Coby Bryant for a significant period.
