Apple today launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its fall event. The new devices feature upgraded cameras, improved battery life, and a new AI-powered Siri.
The highlight of the new Pro series is the 48-megapixel camera with a variable aperture made with six thin blades. This system is designed to improve low-light photograph quality and speed. Apple has also added new pro controls to the camera software, including white balance, shutter speed, aperture, and histogram. New photographic styles with texture and grain controls aim to compete with the “looks” feature on the Pixel 11 series, offering a more retro aesthetic.
The iPhone 18 Pro can record 4K videos in Dolby HDR Vision and apply cinematic effects after shooting. The devices also feature a smaller dynamic island, now capable of tracking three live activities instead of two. Both phones are powered by Apple’s A20 Pro silicon and include a newly designed vapor chamber for improved cooling. Battery life has also been improved, with the iPhone 18 Pro offering 36 hours of video playback and the 18 Pro Max providing 45 hours.
Apple showcased the new Siri AI, which offers contextual on-screen intelligence. The AI will initially support English in beta with the iOS 27 rollout this month, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support following in October. The new devices will also support the iPhone handoff feature with iOS 27, allowing users to switch between two iPhones using one eSIM. A new burgundy color replaces the previous orange option.
The iPhone 18 Pro costs $1,199, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max costs $1,299, representing a $100 price increase over last year’s models. Preorders begin Saturday, and the devices will be available on September 18.
