Lee Pace is starring in “Practical Magic 2” alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, playing a professor of magic immobilized by a curse. The first scene he filmed involved being naked on a bed while the actresses performed magic on him. Pace described the experience as both challenging and exhilarating, admiring the actresses’ “beautiful, distinctive voices.”
Pace, 47, has been building a prolific career, recently completing Season 4 of Apple TV’s “Foundation” and preparing to reprise his role as elf-king Thranduil in the 2027 “Lord of the Rings” sequel, “The Hunt for Gollum,” directed by Andy Serkis. He has previously appeared in “Pushing Daisies,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Halt and Catch Fire,” and Broadway revivals of “The Normal Heart” and “Angels in America.”
In “Practical Magic 2,” Pace’s character, Dr. Ian Wright, is initially less powerful than Bullock and Kidman’s witches, allowing Pace to explore comedic and romantic aspects of the role opposite Bullock. Her character carries a curse that any man she loves will die.
