The 78th Emmy Awards are set to include a tribute to the late Dolly Parton and a performance by Noah Kahan during the In Memoriam segment. Several television anniversaries will also be celebrated.
The producers at Jesse Collins Entertainment are planning a tribute to Dolly Parton, who died on August 25 at age 80, though details are currently being withheld. Jesse Collins stated, “We’re holding it back, but I think it will be a very beautiful tribute to Dolly.”
Roots country music artist Noah Kahan will perform “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” as part of the In Memoriam segment. Kahan chose the song because “it’s a song that is very meaningful to him,” and because Paul Simon is one of his favorite artists. Collins explained the team worked to create an arrangement that “does the song justice,” noting Kahan is “such a pure musician.”
In addition to the musical performances and tribute, the Emmys will celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Charlie’s Angels” with an appearance by the show’s stars. Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz will reunite to mark the 30th anniversary of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Host Mariska Hargitay is preparing for the ceremony, and shared that she has been practicing material with her co-star Kevin Kane at comedy clubs. Hargitay expressed her intention to approach the hosting role authentically, stating, “I’m just doing what I do. I’m having the time of my life.” Her brother, Mickey Hargitay Jr., is providing olive trees for the blue carpet (in honor of NBC’s 100th anniversary), which will later be donated to the House of Ruth, a shelter for women facing domestic abuse. Hargitay recently won two Emmys for her documentary “My Mom Jayne,” which she said has eased the pressure of preparing for the Emmys.
