New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye took responsibility for his performance in Wednesday’s 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, specifically citing his three fourth-quarter interceptions as “unacceptable.”
Maye threw interceptions on each of the Patriots’ final three drives, including a game-sealing interception with roughly 30 seconds remaining. He finished the contest 23 of 33 for 178 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions, adding 47 rushing yards. After the game, Maye stated his performance “wasn’t how I play football and how I want to represent my game,” and vowed to improve, acknowledging the long season ahead but emphasizing that turnovers are “unacceptable.”
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel echoed Maye’s sentiment, stating he wants the quarterback to be “aggressive, not reckless,” and directly noting, “You can’t throw three interceptions. Drake knows that.”
The Patriots also faced challenges beyond Maye’s turnovers. Wide receiver A.J. Brown left the game with an ankle injury, and Romeo Doubs dropped a potential big play. The team’s rushing attack struggled, and some questioned offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ approach against the Seahawks’ blitzes. The Seahawks’ defense proved formidable, and the Patriots face a difficult schedule this season, with upcoming games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills.
