Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has voiced concerns about Marvel Studios’ recent cancellations of projects, citing negative “optics.” The cancellations include his series “Wonder Man” and the long-delayed “Blade” film.
Abdul-Mateen II expressed his disappointment regarding the cancellation of “Wonder Man” after it had already been renewed for a second season. He also highlighted the repeated delays and eventual shelving of the “Blade” movie starring Mahershala Ali. He stated, “The optics are obvious.”
According to the actor, the repeated cancellations create a problematic image for Disney, Marvel’s parent company. “If I’m Disney, I do not want to be attached to these optics,” Abdul-Mateen II said. The “Wonder Man” series was canceled in July, despite the renewal.
