Nouveau Driver Gains Display Fixes for NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs

The open-source Nouveau driver has received several display fixes for NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPUs as part of the latest Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) updates merged ahead of the Linux 7.3-rc2 release. These fixes address interactions with the GPU System Processor (GSP), HDMI infoframes for GB20x hardware, HDMI register offsets, and vblank interrupts.

Nouveau developer Mohamed Ahmed explained that these improvements were largely made during development toward HDMI 2.1 support. According to Ahmed, “Several fixes for GSP-driven displays consisting of four independent groups. These were created as part of ongoing HDMI 2.1 bring up and display handling clean-up work, so some of them are not issues now (e.g., the 2.147GHz pixel clock cap) but fixing them is required to get advanced features such as FRL, DSC, VRR, etc working properly.”

The fixes were integrated overnight as part of the DRM updates for Linux 7.3-rc2. Updates were also made to AMDGPU and Intel drivers, along with other smaller DRM drivers.
