Nippon TV has greenlit a second season of the game show “The Floor,” hosted by Okada Junichi, following a successful initial run in Japan. The new season, an all-celebrity competition, will premiere October 21st as a weekly series.

The first iteration of “The Floor” in Japan launched in March as a three-hour prime-time celebrity special, marking the format’s first adaptation in Asia. The upcoming season will feature 32 celebrity contestants competing for a €100,000 ($116,383) prize. Contestants advance by winning knowledge duels against opponents on a grid of 100 illuminated tiles, each representing a different subject area. Winning a duel allows a contestant to absorb their opponent’s tile, expanding their territory, while the losing contestant is eliminated.

Oi Shuichi, managing director of programming and platform strategy in Nippon TV’s content strategy headquarters, stated, “Nippon TV’s edition of ‘The Floor’ received an overwhelmingly positive response when it first premiered this March; its fast-paced gameplay and strategic psychological battles set it apart from traditional Japanese quiz shows.” He added, “We believe it will become must-watch weekly viewing for Japanese audiences from October onward.”

Nanzai Misaki, creative director at Nippon TV, explained that the Japanese version brings together comedians, celebrities, YouTubers, and Olympic medalists. “Knowledge alone is not enough, it also takes unwavering mental strength, strategic thinking, and the ability to make split-second decisions under pressure,” she said. “I am truly delighted to bring audiences the genuine emotion and human drama that only a competition as intense as ‘The Floor’ can draw out of its contestants.”

“The Floor” is a Talpa Studios format, sold in over 30 territories worldwide. Talpa Studios’ portfolio includes other non-scripted shows like “The Quiz With Balls” and “The Tribute, Battle of the Bands.” Nippon TV owns streaming platform Hulu in Japan and holds ownership of nearly 90% of its content IP, expanding its international presence through anime, programs, formats, and co-productions.
