Modular released Mojo 1.1 and MAX 26.6 today, marking a significant step in the development of the Mojo programming language. The release includes performance improvements and expanded functionality, alongside the opening of the Mojo compiler to community contributions.
Founded by Chris Lattner, known for his work on LLVM and Swift, Modular was recently acquired by Qualcomm. Following the acquisition, the Mojo language was open-sourced. Mojo 1.1 introduces support for inferred member references, improved compile times, and enhanced generated code performance. Several APIs within the standard library, including those for SIMD, are now considered stable.
MAX 26.6, released alongside Mojo 1.1, adds support for audio generation using MiniMax-Music3. Performance improvements have also been implemented for kernels running on both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. A key change with this release is the acceptance of code contributions from the community to the Mojo compiler, further opening the development process.
