Former Cambridge Professor Jason Arday Found Dead Following Plagiarism Allegations

Jason Arday, a 41-year-old former sociology professor at the University of Cambridge, was found dead at a home in south London on Friday. The Metropolitan Police stated that Arday was pronounced dead at the scene after being found unresponsive; while the death was unexpected, authorities said it is not believed to be suspicious.

Arday's death occurred one week after he resigned from the University of Cambridge. His resignation followed the university's announcement of an investigation into allegations of fabrication and plagiarism. The scandal emerged after media reports and some academics accused Arday—who became Cambridge’s youngest Black professor in 2023—of plagiarizing portions of his doctoral thesis.

While most reports focus on the academic misconduct, some outlets note that the high-profile storm surrounding the allegations also featured claims of racism.

Arday's family stated they are "in shock to have lost this amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and son."
