NFL Australia Managing Director Nathan Quinn explained the selection process, stating, “We did not select the 49ers at all.” Quinn clarified the league aimed for teams with broad appeal and strong international followings, leading to the Rams being chosen first.
The 49ers became involved due to scheduling conflicts. Quinn said, “The Rams were very keen to be the home team, and we needed a team that didn’t have a home game in Mexico or the UK.” The game is scheduled to take place in Melbourne.
