Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando Resort are marking the conclusion of Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ with special installations at their annual Halloween Horror Nights events. The attractions, opening August 28 in Orlando and September 3 in Hollywood, will include themed houses and a lagoon show, adapting the entire series for the first time in the event’s history.
John Murdy, creative director of USH’s event, recalls the initial ‘Stranger Things’ house in 2018, noting the show’s rising popularity and the young age of stars Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink and Priah Ferguson during a walkthrough. He confirmed the cast has been invited back for a final walk-through alongside fans. The 2024 installations coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the series’ debut.
Jason Horne, assistant director, Entertainment Creative Development, Universal Orlando Resort, emphasized the impact ‘Stranger Things’ had on the event’s demographic, bringing in a younger audience that continued to attend even in years without a ‘Stranger Things’ house. “That is what’s going to keep our event alive — that next generation finding reasons to fall in love with it,” he stated.
Beyond the haunted houses, Universal is also offering themed food and beverages. In Orlando, vp, executive chef Jens Dahlmann has created dishes like El’s Battery Jerky, mac ‘n’ cheese, and peppered beef jerky, alongside drinks such as Hopper’s Recharger. At the Hollywood location, vp of culinary Julia Thrash is serving the Hellfire Club Spicy Italian Sandwich and Steve’s Smuggled Peanut Butter Bites. Previous L.A. menu items included Eleven’s Waffle Extravaganza and the Mind Flayer cocktail.
