Troy High School’s football team defeated Amsterdam 47-8 Friday night in Section 2 Class A action. Junior quarterback Anthony Brown made his varsity debut, leading the Flying Horses to a decisive victory.
The Flying Horses scored touchdowns on four of their first five possessions. Senior running back/linebacker Vulonn Forde scored three touchdowns, while senior running back Nymiear Jenkins scored two. Deonte Raysor also contributed with a 31-yard touchdown reception. Troy outgained Amsterdam 303-101 in total yards, consistently starting drives on the opposing side of the field.
Amsterdam’s Jonathan Rosario scored the Rugged Rams’ only touchdown on a fourth-down, one-yard run following a fumbled snap. Despite the lopsided score, Forde expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “Amsterdam is one of our biggest rivals and a team we don't like. The score should have been a lot greater. We're not really satisfied.” He added that the team intends to “come harder” next week.
Troy coach Jordan Canzeri highlighted the team’s hunger and potential for improvement. He noted the only faults were too many penalties and a 29-yard loss on a play where Brown attempted to avoid a sack. Brown himself said, “Honestly, this was pretty great. I think there is more to expect.” Kieonte Green added a 68-yard punt return for a final touchdown. Canzeri praised the team’s trust and dedication.
Forde, who stands 5-foot-8 and weighs 178 pounds, demonstrated considerable power in his runs. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in his career during the game.
