Ruidoso Downs Race Track, owned by Johnny and Jana Trotter and Global Gaming Solutions, has agreed to move its top races to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, beginning in 2027. The move includes the Quarter Horse Triple Crown Series, the All-American Super Select Sale, and the Ruidoso Downs Hall of Fame.
The Quarter Horse Triple Crown Series consists of the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity, the $1 million Rainbow Futurity, and the $3 million All-American Futurity. The first two legs of the series took place at the Downs at Albuquerque in June and July, with the All-American Futurity scheduled for Monday at the same location. Historically, all three races have been held at Ruidoso Downs.
Rick Baugh, Ruidoso Downs general manager, stated, “This was not an easy decision, but we believe it is the right one. Lone Star Park has the leadership, the facilities and the visibility to ensure these institutions continue to grow, thrive and reach new racing fans for generations to come.” The decision comes as Ruidoso Downs facilities remain closed following damage from the South Fork and Salt fires in 2024 and subsequent flash floods in 2024 and 2025; there is no current timeline for reopening the track.
Skip Seeley, President/CEO of Global Gaming Solutions, said, “The All-American Triple Crown Series, Super Select Sale and Hall of Fame have a treasured history among owners, trainers, jockeys and the countless racing fans who love the horse racing experience. We are excited about the opportunity to continue these storied traditions at Lone Star Park and introduce them to racing fans across North Texas and beyond.” A final deal is expected in the coming weeks.
