Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided encouraging updates Monday on the status of safety Kam Curl, inside linebackers Nate Landman and Omar Speights, and tight end Davis Allen following the team’s Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
McVay described the updates as “positive,” suggesting the players could return to action relatively soon. Curl exited Thursday’s game in the second half with an ankle injury but McVay stated, “is good,” characterizing it as ankle soreness. Curl started all 17 games last season and recently signed a $36 million contract extension.
Landman sustained a shoulder and thumb injury late in the fourth quarter during a play involving Christian McCaffrey. McVay confirmed the injuries and said the team will be cautious with him in practice this week, but expects him to be ready for the Rams’ Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants on Sept. 21.
Speights left the game in the first half with a hip injury before returning in the second quarter. Allen’s injury was the most concerning, as he went down hard in the third quarter and was evaluated for a concussion, briefly showing a fencing response. However, Allen did return to the game, indicating he cleared concussion protocol. The Rams are looking to bounce back from their 27-7 season-opening loss.
