John Malkovich will return to Israel next year to perform in the satirical theatrical-musical production, *The Music Critic*. The show, written and conceived by Aleksey Igudesman, blends classical music with comedy, featuring Malkovich as an “evil critic” who delivers scathing reviews of famous composers.
Malkovich is scheduled to perform at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv on April 13. *The Music Critic* has previously toured Europe and the United States and been released as an album. The production features a live ensemble with Igudesman and pianist Hyung-ki Joo, and culminates in Malkovich reading a harsh review of his own career.
The return comes during a period of disruption for international bookings in Israel due to the ongoing regional conflict. Malkovich previously visited Israel in 2008 as a guest of honor at the Jerusalem Film Festival, and again in 2013 for stage performances in both Eilat and Tel Aviv.
According to The Jerusalem Post, Malkovich stated, “I am thrilled to return to Israel and look forward to meeting the warm Israeli audience once again, to whom I feel a strong closeness and solidarity. I hope to find you happy and optimistic! Sending you much love.” He recently attended the Venice Film Festival to promote his upcoming film *Wild Horse Nine*, which received a 14-minute standing ovation, with Malkovich appearing visibly moved. Representatives for Malkovich did not respond to a request for additional comment.
