The 30th edition of the Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival has revealed the 29 projects selected for its New Visions Forum, taking place October 28-30. The Forum aims to connect project teams with potential co-production, financing, sales, and distribution partners, drawing approximately 1,200 industry professionals.
Eight of the selected projects are directed by first-time filmmakers, alongside new works from established directors. Among them is Pulitzer Prize-winning filmmaker Lindsey Sitz, who will present “Searching for SmarterChild.” Simantini Chakraborty, a collaborator of Godfrey Reggio, will pitch “Impossible to Ignore.” Iranian filmmaker Ali Razi (“At Night, the Red Sky”) is bringing “Archiveless Memories, for an Imaginary Museum,” and Polish director Agnieszka Zwiefka (“Silent Trees,” “Vika!”) will deliver “Words We Never Say.”
The lineup also includes new projects from Charlotte Heilstone (U.K.) and Matej Sotník (Slovakia), both alumni of the festival’s Emerging Producers program. Projects hail from Europe, the U.S., and East and Southeast Asia, with six additional projects originating from Montenegro, which is the Country in Focus for Ji.hlava’s industry program. Recurring themes across the selection include memory, archives, suppressed or silenced narratives, individuals challenging power structures, and the intersection of personal experience with historical processes.
The Forum is supported by a Matchmaking Accelerator, designed to connect selected projects with international decision-makers and industry professionals. A full list of projects is available online.
