Borussia Mönchengladbach has fired head coach Eugen Polanski following a winless start to the Bundesliga season. The team has conceded 12 goals in three matches.
Polanski, along with assistant coach Tobias Trulsen, was relieved of his duties immediately. Sporting director Rouven Schröder stated the team failed to achieve desired results despite a positive pre-season. "Despite a good pre-season and positive signs, the team has not managed to achieve the desired results in the Bundesliga," Schröder explained. "The performances shown recently led to the decision to relieve Eugen of his duties with immediate effect."
The dismissal comes after defeats to RB Leipzig, promoted side Elversberg, and SC Freiburg. Gladbach’s current form is worse than last season, when former coach Gerardo Seoane was also fired after three matches with only one point. Polanski initially served as an interim coach before being permanently appointed.
Jan-Moritz Lichte will take over as interim head coach, supported by Markus Gellhaus and the existing coaching staff. Polanski expressed his disappointment, stating, “Borussia Mönchengladbach was and remains my club. That is why it hurts so incredibly much that things have come to this. After successfully staying up, we changed quite a few things for this season. We had a lot planned, but we were unable to put it into practice. I'm sorry for that. I very much hope Borussia turn things around quickly. I wish the club, the team, and all the wonderful fans nothing but the best. Thank you for our time together.”
Captain Tim Kleindienst recently voiced frustration, indicating a potentially low morale within the team.
